We’ve been working on getting Norah to sleep better and in her crib. So far it has been working! We are doing a VERY modified cry it out method that looks a bit like this:
I nurse her and she falls asleep and gets placed into her crib. She typically wakes up 30-90 minutes later and we go in give her her paci and lay her down on her tummy and if she lays down without a fight we stand there and rub her back until she at least let’s us leave the room and then if she cries we go back in. If she does not take to being laid down when we first go in we talk to her, telling her goodnight and that we love her and we leave the room for about 3 minutes and repeat until she gives in to letting us lay her down - usually it only takes 2-3 rounds thankfully.
Ever since we started doing this she went from waking up 4-6 times a night to be held to waking up once to eat around 3-4 and then sleeps in her crib until 5:30-6 and if she wakes up after that Matt usually lays with her on the couch. It’s really been fantastic.
But because we like to keep things interesting around here, starting between 2-4am Wrigley, our 3 1/2 year old Yorkie decides that he has had enough of his crate and starts whining. Now we don’t live in a very big house... so it’s enough to wake us up as well as Norah on occasion. We get Norah to sleep (mostly) through the night and now our dog won’t sleep through the night?? Do they have a book to get your dog to sleep better? Ugh. We’ve tried getting him out and feeding him, we’ve tried taking him outside, we’ve tried threatening a bath (a four letter word to him) and he still whines.
I can deal with the whining but I can’t deal with him waking Norah up when we have worked so hard to get her to sleep better. We’re going to have to figure something out. Are there any books about getting your dog to sleep through the night? haha
