Homemade "Cream of Anything" Soup Mix
I hate paying so much for cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, cream of celery etc cans. They are expensive and so unhealthy and sometimes I don't need a whole can or need just a bit more which is a pain.
A few years ago I started making this and while I have gotten away from making it lately I'm excited to start using it again. It is so much better for you and I don't have to worry if I forgot to pick up a can at the store.
What you need:
2 cups non-fat dry milk
1 cup cornstarch (you can adjust this based on how thick you want/need it to be)
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp garlic
1 tsp basil
1/2 tsp pepper
*Add in any or take away any spices you like, it is very customizable!
All you need to do is mix all of your ingredients together and store in an air tight container. I used two canning jars because I had some laying around.
When you need some for a recipe just mix 1/3 of the dry mix with either chicken bouillon, mushrooms, celery, etc and 1 1/4 cup water and bring to a boil and stir. You can add more liquid or cornstarch if you need it thinner or thicker. If you want to use actual chicken broth you can easily just use broth in the place of the water.
