Children's Consignment Sales

Can we walk about consignment sales? I was introduced to my first consignment sale in the spring of 2011 a few months before my daughter was born. It was a "Just Between Friends" sale and it was okay. I wasn't really hooked at that point but I did like the concept.  If you aren't familiar with consignment sales here's a simplified version of how they work. An organization sets up a sale (Just Between Friends, Whale of a Sale, independent places such as churches etc.) in a large room or gym and "cosigners" price their items (clothes, toys, books and such) and then people come in over the course of a day or weekend and buy up all of the goodies. Basically it's like a community yard sale - but with good stuff! Often the organizer in an effort to keep the integrity of their name will only allow nice non stained clothing and toys that work. OH! And on sales that are multi-day sales often on the last day the majority of items are marked half off.

After we moved back up north from Florida a friend told me about a sale held at a church. I've been to my fair share of sales up here, but this one is by far the largest and best priced. Some sales people try to get way too much for their stuff. If I'm shopping consignment I'm not wanting to spend $8 on a pair of jeans.... At the sale I attend at the church I often get jeans for my kids for .50-$2. I think I paid $4 once for a pair of jeans for my daughter but they were brand new Osh Gosh adjustable waist jeans. It's not uncommon to get an entire outfit for $2-3.  I've been to a few terrible sales. Once my mom drove 2 hours to one that was a huge disappointment. It was their first year and there wasn't much there and the prices were high. I've found that if you find one that has been around for awhile the prices are better and there is more stuff.  So do you do consignment sales? Maybe you are actually a cosigner yourself? What sales do you do? Local ones? National named ones? (Just Between Friends)

Indy Kids Resale

This morning my alarm clock went off just after 5am so we could get up and around and get to Indy Westside Church of the Nazarene by 7 and it's about an hour drive. Every year they have a Kids Resale I had only been to one other resale and it was before Norah was born so we really didn't get much at that one other than scoring our Angel Care monitor for $30. This time though we had some clothes to get!

We ended up spending $26 total. We spent $18 for clothes for Norah, $1 on a skirt for my niece and $6 for a rocking horse thing and $1 on a little toy. I'm happy with what we got but when I was putting clothes into the bag I figured we had spent more than what we had - if I had known we probably would have thrown a few more things into the bag. Matt said next time we'll take a calculator so we know where we are as far as spending goes. I forgot that $2 pants don't add up as fast as regular priced stuff at Kohls :)

Anyways, here is what we came away with (minus my nieces skirt)

$18 = 7 pants 12 shirts and 2 dresses

She loves it already.
