Black Flag flying Insect Trap and Lure

A few weeks ago I was sent the Black Flag Flying Insect Trap & Lure to try out. This trap is suppose to lure insects to the trap keeping them away from you and your children. Here is what the website has to say about the product:

"Enjoy your backyard without houseflies, wasps and yellow jackets! With the Black Flag Flying Insect Trap you can enjoy, entertain, and relax on your deck or patio all summer long without the worry of houseflies, wasps and yellow jackets. Its powerful lure draws these pests away from your living area and securely traps them." Source

There are apparently no insecticides. From what I understand the little disk that you put in it just attracks the bugs and then they are trapped inside the hanging trap and they are unable to get out - therefore they either drown or simply die while trying to get out. So while you don't want your kids handling it, there is no harmful chemicals that will be floating around your yard.

Here are the little disks that I used in mine - they are suppose to be for wasps and yellow jackets and is suppose to last up to a month (though if the water dries out you need to put more in).

In reading the directions I wasn't sure if I was suppose to put a whole disk in there plastic and all or if I was suppose to pop the disk out and just put the lure substance in it. I decided it didn't hurt to put the plastic and all in it so that is what I did.
I originally tried to pop the disk of lure out and then just decided to throw in the whole thing, plastic and all.

Then you fill it up half way with water.
When the water evaporates, you will want to fill it up again to get your month of use.

That's it. After you've done that you hang it up and let it do its job.

To be fair it has been HOT here in Indiana (100+ degrees each day, sometimes feeling up to 116 degrees.... that's hot for us), so we haven't been able to sit outside and use our deck - so I can't tell you if bugs would or wouldn't be bugging us anymore. I can tell you that the trap is full of mostly flies and some bees too. I would post a picture, but it is kind of gross when it gets full of course. So obviously it is doing something to catch them. I will have to update when we are able to sit outside again and let you know if it has made a difference in how many bugs are flying around us.

Now the ratings:

Ratings: (1=Not so great - 5= Awesome)

Cute Factor: 4
Quality: 4
Customer Service: N/A
Affordability: I actually am not sure what the cost of the product is - I will find out and update
Practicality: 4

The trap isn't ugly, which is a bonus considering what it is used for. It is made of plastic but we have had a few windy storms and there hasn't been any damage to it yet. If you are looking for something that keeps the bugs lured to something other than you in a certain location such as your deck this is certainly a product you will want to look into to see if it is right for your family.
