Halo Sleep Sack

Fall has finally arrived here in Indiana, and it looks like we're going to be headed straight to winter rather quickly. We live in an older home and my kids' rooms never feel quite warm enough. Wes has outgrown the option of swaddling and with him only being 8 months old I don't feel comfortable giving him a blanket yet. I LOVED the Halo swaddle that the hospital sent us home with because I felt like he could stay warm but be safe at the same time. We could never get a tight enough swaddle on him with just a blanket and he was always breaking free (stinking escape artist). There was no way for him to break free from the Halo swaddle (take that Houdini!).

Did you know that Halo makes sleep sacks for older kids?? I seriously had no idea that they made products for older children. I mean, did you know?! When I was contact by them about featuring their product on my blog I was so surprised that they had a product for my older infant. I just assumed they were just in the swaddle market.

This is what they look like:

Image from Halo's website

Basically it's a blanket they can wear. They can't get tangled up in it and they can't suffocate themselves with it.

Safe sleep has always been a biggie with me. I've never been one to load my kids' crib up with blankets and stuffed animals. Here are some safe sleep tips straight from Halo:

HALO Innovation’s SleepSack® wearable blankets have become the standard for hospital nurseries and parents alike. In fact, 1,000 hospital nurseries use the HALO SleepSack Swaddle instead of blankets through the HALO Safer Way to Sleep InitiativeHALO Innovations also offers free Safe Sleep Practices kits to childbirth educators to help further the cause of SIDS prevention.

ALWAYS
  • Place baby to sleep on his or her back at naptime and at night time.
  • Use a crib that meets current safety standards with a firm mattress that fits snuggly and is covered with only a tight-fitting crib sheet.
  • Remove all soft bedding and toys from your baby’s sleep area (this includes loose blankets, bumpers, pillows and positioners). The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests using a wearable blanket instead of loose blankets to keep your baby warm.
  • Offer a pacifier when putting baby to sleep. If breastfeeding, introduce pacifier after one month or after breastfeeding has been established.
  • Breastfeed, if possible, but when finished, put your baby back to sleep in his or her separate safe sleep area alongside your bed.
NEVER
  • Never put your baby to sleep on any soft surface
  • Never dress your baby too warmly for sleep; keep room temperature 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Never allow anyone to smoke around your baby or take your baby into a room or car where someone has recently smoked.
Halo is actually donating $1 to SIDS awareness for every new "like" they get on their Facebook page during the month of October. I love when companies show support to a great cause!

How cute is this rocket design?

Aside from how cute it is, my absolute favorite thing about it is that the zipper starts at the top and zips down. There are so many baby clothes (mostly pjs) that my kids can access the zipper pull and chew on it and I absolutely hate it. With this, that isn't possible. Oh my goodness the fleece is so soft as well!

You can purchase any of the Halo sleep products directly from their website or from target.com and amazon.com

Bright Star Kids Clothing

I'm always on the look out for cute clothes, so when I got the opportunity to look through Bright Star Kids' clothing I was pretty excited! I'm not so great with the whole making decisions thing (just ask my husband) and I had such a hard time deciding the perfect shirt to have shipped, they are all so stinking cute! Finally though I decided on this adorable puff sleeve shirt.

I will admit, I was expecting a rather cheap iron on item. I mean sure they looked cute on the site, but typically my experiences with personalized designs on shirts included me getting a low quality iron on.  I was completely surprised at the quality! Not only is the shirt super soft but the emblem is far from a cheap sticky iron on. The design is smoothly printed directly on the shirt and isn't going to fade away with washes as far as I can tell.

So if I'm even more honest, I was expecting the product to take quite a while to get to me seeing as they are based in Australia, and well... I'm not :) Again I was pretty surprised when it arrived quickly. I was more than a little excited to see a package for me from Australia.... I get excited about things like that ;)
Speaking of the company being in Australia, their clothing sizes are different than ours here in the US. Thankfully they have a handy dandy size chart. I got my small 2 year old and size 2 puff shirt and it fits with room to grow. So just be aware that you will likely need to break out a measuring tape before ordering.

Sili Squeeze Review

Way back before we moved... you know... back when I was blogging regularly? Well I posted here about getting the Sili in the mail. We've had a chance to try it out!
First of all, I love the look.

My friends over at The Sili Company provided me with their "Apple" colored 4oz Sili Squeeze. We don't have very much red around the house so I love that this sticks out so I'm not constantly loosing it.

Let me get to the only downside I found with the product before I overload you with my love for this product. There are two different spouts with the Sili. I chose to get the spill proof spout. Here is what that spout looks like:

They squeeze it with their gums/teeth to open the spout.

The other spout is completely open.

It does a VERY good job of keeping the product in... but because of that it is a bit hard for my kiddos to get it out - especially my 7 1/2 month old. I think he will eventually get the hang of it but it might take him awhile. To be fair though Sili included a disclaimer saying that it does take some children longer than others to get the hang of it. I wish it was a little less stiff so it was easy to get the food out, but I'm sure the company tested it out and found that by making it easier to get out compromised the spill proof quality.

Now that we got that out of the way, I stinking love it. I love that I can put whatever I want in it... yogurt? Check! Applesauce? Check! Homemade purees? Check! Jarred baby food? Check! Heck, I needed to entertain the little mister for a few minutes the other day and quickly put water in it and handed it to him. It kept him entertained AND it didn't spill.

I love that I'm not spending anywhere from 88 cents to $1.69 like I was before on the prepackaged varieties. I love that I know 100% exactly what is in the food I'm handing my child. I love that my daughter can have an on the go snack such as yogurt and it not get everywhere. I also love that it has a nice lid that snaps on further preventing any spills when not in use - even though like I said before, I put water in it, held it upside down and without squeezing it couldn't get more than a tiny bit to trickle out.

This baby is dishwasher safe as well. Score. All of the components come off and makes for easy cleaning. I have a few sippy cups that I can't get clean because they don't come completely apart so I certainly can appreciate that this product does.

Well then of course you have the environmental factor of not tossing all of those disposable pouches away.

I would certainly recommend this product. I may end up ordering the "ease" spout so it's easier to get the food out for my kids and see how they do with that. If I end up doing it I'll certainly update you and let you know if I prefer that spout.

Have you heard of the Sili Squeeze? Have one? Do you like it?

Gum Drop iPad Case

You know those really fun iPad cases that Apple sells? You know the ones, they fold up all neat and come in bright colors... this one:

We learned pretty quickly that they don't do squat for protecting an iPad, especially when you have children. Our daughter enjoys playing game on the iPad and the flimsy Apple cover just wasn't going to do the job.

Gum Drop Cases came to the rescue and sent me a Drop Tech Color Case.

This thing is pretty heavy duty. It certainly is not a slim case, and we were not looking for a slim case - we were looking for something more rugged that was going to protect the iPad. It feels very sturdy and has an inner case that is hard with a separate textured rubber case.

I really like the textured background because I feel like it would be much more difficult for it to slip out of your hand. The only improvement I would make is that the hard case does not cover the back of the iPad and I think that would add even more protection. With that said though, I think the rubber case on its own would do a very good job of protecting it in the event of a fall (or you know if the kiddos decided to play catch with it...).

BOB Revolution SE Duallie Review

My husband and I started running at the start of 2008. We worked through the Couch to 5K program that is getting increasingly popular and we ran our first 5k hosted by the Chicago Cubs called, "Race to Wrigley". We kept running and were running about 3 miles at a time 3 times a week... then we had kids. After we had our daughter my parents gifted us a jogging stroller. We picked the one that seemed to fit our needs and it did for a normal stroller, but honestly it doesn't fit our needs at all as a jogger.
Basically we used it as an excuse for not running.

Flash forward quite a bit and we now have two young children and even more excuses to not be running. It felt near impossible to run because with only so many hours in the day and not having a double jogger so both of us could run at the same time it just became difficult.

Enter the BOB Revolution SE Duallie.
We were looking for a double jogging stroller that could handle going at least 8-10 miles at a time, would be comfortable for the kids, would last us a while and had a swivel wheel so we could also use it outside of running.
We made the decision to purchase our double BOB on Amazon for $494.25 - this post is not sponsored by BOB in any way.
I was so excited when it arrived! It came in a large box that had cut out handles on the sides.

I started to open it when I got a text from the husband telling me to wait on opening it until he got home... I was so close!
The packaging was pretty easy to open. For the most part it was sealed with large staples vs glue meaning less pulling and tearing of cardboard. If you had been a witness to our opening of our daughter's crib box you'd know we have issues opening box packaging :)
Here are a few pictures I snapped while we were taking it out of the box.

We were pretty surprised that it shipped essentially put together. All we had to do was remove the packaging and attach the wheels. There were no tools needed and it was incredibly quick. It took very little effort. We assumed there would be some assembly so it was a pleasant surprise.

We slipped the wheels on just as our daughter was waking up and she was more than happy to jump in. We read somewhere that the double is only 6 inches wider than the single and can fit through a standard doorway so we decided to test it out.

It fit with about an inch on each side. We were at the mall yesterday for the first time with it and had no trouble getting in and out of stores at all.
The single jogger that we have is a Baby Trend. Here is a picture of our BOB Duallie next to our single  Baby Trend:
Finally the next morning we were able to test it out! Here are the kiddos in it:
*Note: Bob suggests waiting until a child is 8 months to have them ride in their stroller in this manner. Our Baby Trend suggested 4 months. Our son is 6.5 months old with excellent head control and we feel confident in allowing him to ride in the stroller in this way (without being in an infant carseat carrier). If you in any way doubt your child's head control I would use the car seat adapter as they suggest while running*
A look at the Duallie:

I love how much sun protection they get!

The peak-a-boo windows are nice and large

The flap rolls up (on the left) and slides under a mesh pouch, or you can just flip it over the top of the shade (on the right)

Now here is an interesting feature! Look at the picture right above this. See how there are black straps on the sides of the "windows"? Well if you have an older/taller child and want to fold the canopy up half way or all of the way you simply pull on those straps and it gets rid of the extra bulk near their head. Let me show you.

On the left the excess is pulled up and out of the way of the older child's head vs the one on the right has the extra fabric/window material down but since they are smaller it doesn't reach their head.

They were starting to get a little tired of not moving but here you can see how you can see the plastic of the window material over Wes' head and you can't see it over Norah's. That's because the straps that I just explained are pulling the material up on her side.

I like that each child has two of these mesh pouches for a drink or snack or small toy. There is one on each side of each seats.

So great, it looks nice... but does it function as a jogger? As an every day jogger? I haven't gotten to jog with it other that a small bit because my husband keeps hogging it! Each time we've gone for a run he pipes up saying he'll take the kids. I'm guessing that is a good thing :) The limited time I have ran with it I found it to be very smooth. It honestly is easier to push our TWO kids in this than it is to push one kid in our other jogger. I feel like with this stroller you just have to guide it and your momentum pushes it vs. our Baby Trend you have to PUSH the stroller, exerting more energy.

What about every day use? Yep, it does that too. It is really easy to change it over to a swivel wheel and like I said before it fits through a standard doorway which is great for a side by side stroller.

Is there anything I don't like? Well I do wish it would fold up a little easier. It's kind of awkward feels heavier than it is when my 4 foot 11 inch self is trying to carry it. I prefer the Baby Jogger (not Baby Trend) method of folding up but it isn't a big enough deal to keep us from the BOB. It does fit in the trunk of our small Toyota Yaris, but we have to take the back wheels off. That is super easy though and only takes a second. Really, not a big deal.

The BOB Revolution SE Duallie seems to be a good fit for us. The kids have done great on runs and it's really been the kick we need to get back to running.

Even Mickey approves ;)

MG Bowtique (Giveaway and 10% off for everyone!)

*Giveaway posted at the bottom of this entry. One winner will win a free bow (up to a $5 value) and everyone who enters the giveaway and mentions my blog when ordering will get 10% off your order or $5 or more! (shipping additional) I will be giving the winner's info to MG Bowtique and the two of you will go from there.

Okay so I have to admit something. I'm a bit of a girly girl. I've gotten pretty lazy about being girly myself, but I love all things girly... you know the pink and sparkles. So knowing this, it shouldn't come as a surprise to hear that I like putting bows in Norah's hair (well she is still working on trying to get some hair so I guess I should say on her head). In fact, Norah has been wearing MG bows since before she was born :)

I actually know the person who runs MG Bowtique and have seen her work from the very beginning and it's been so fun so see how many new creative things she has done. I mean she makes ribbon turn into sunflowers, how fun is that?? She doesn't just do bows for babies/toddlers but also for older kids and also adults. She even does some for dogs :)

She does have a Facebook page which you can find HERE. She showcases her work there, but then she does fun things like sometimes on Friday she will do "Freebie Friday" where the first person to comment gets the pictured bow for free. I love watching out for those :) She also has an Etsy page.

Here are a few bows posted on her page that I love and want to share with you:
This is the next type I want to order (for both myself and Norah)
Great summer one!

Okay here are the details on the giveaway. As usual it is open to US residents who are at least 18 years old. The giveaway is for a free bow from MG Bowtique valued up to $5 (If you are wanting a bow that is more than $5 I believe she will give you a $5 credit towards your order). Also as I said before, anyone that enters the giveaway and mentions my blog will get 10% off their order through July 20th (in stock ribbon only please and shipping additional).

Here you go, you know what to do :) Don't forget that when the winner is chosen at random I will check to make sure you have done the action you said you done for the entry (such as liking a FB page). Sadly I have had people lie and say they have done an action when they have not.
a Rafflecopter giveaway
