We are finally getting settled into the house. We have a few more things to do to make it our own but for the most part we are getting comfortable. As I mentioned before the house is old... like very old. It is estimated to have been built in 1881 if I remember correctly. I love that this means it has a lot of character, but at the same time I'm not very into the antique look that the person living here before is. It looked great in the pictures with their furniture and decor but our belongings just don't match that. I like character, but modern. Our first project (and most of our projects will be small not very expensive or intensive projects seeing as we don't own it) was to paint the living room. I felt like I couldn't really settle until that was done.
We decided to go with a light gray and had a friend help us that has some experience painting. He was going to use a sprayer but that ended up not being the best route.
Here is what it looked like before:

I think it makes a huge difference in how clean it looks and it is more on the modern spectrum of things. It makes the door frames and windows stand out quite bit more as well. We want to get different curtains but until we decide what we want those will just stay.
