This or That: Wipes

First up on my "This or That: Baby Edition" is wipes. I had no clue how much I would use wipes! I don't mean just on my children's cute little bums either. We use wipes for everything. Sticky fingers? Wipes. Sticky table? Wipes. Food on the floor? Wipes to the rescue. We quickly discovered which wipes did the job for us and which ones we vowed to never buy again.

Here are the wipes I'll be evaluating:
Pampers
Huggies
Parent's Choice (Walmart brand)
*I plan to pick up a pack of "Up & Up" the Target brand soon and will add a review of those to this list as that happens.
I had Pampers and Huggies wipes on hand so I will have first hand pictures of those. All prices will be given based on Walmart.com

Let's start with Pampers.
A box of Pampers wipes is going to run you $10.97 for 448 wipes. (You can find them here)
Thickness: I'd say Pampers are on the thinner side of average. They are pretty stretchy as well. Some people will like that, other's won't.
Feel: Personally I think they feel a little slimy. Maybe it is more that they feel more wet/watery than slimy but I perceive it as slimy.
Cleaning Ability: They do the job. For us we have to use more Pampers to get the job done because sometimes it seems like it does more smearing than other brands. I think this is due to them being more "smooth" vs. "textured".
Value: At almost $11 for a box they are obviously a brand name but is not that far off from generic.
Note that you can pretty easily see my fingers through the wipe.
Mama Mama verdict - We don't like Pamper wipes. We actually aren't a fan of how stretchy they are and they are just too "wet" feeling for our liking. I think our reasons for not liking them though are completely personal preference vs. actual functionality.

Next up- Huggies
A box of Huggies wipes is also $10.97 for 448 wipes. (You can find them here).

Thickness: Huggies thickness is pretty average as well. They have give when you stretch them but they are not as stretchy as Pampers.
Feel: Huggies tend to be on the more textured side. I think this gives a deceiving feeling of being thicker but I still think they are pretty average in thickness. They have moisture but don't seem to be overly wet.
Cleaning Ability: Again I feel that these do the job. The textured design helps to clean up the mess.
Value: These are the same price as Pampers. Yet again a name brand price, but not too much more than generic.
You can still see my fingers but you can tell these are thicker
Side by side of Huggies (left) & Pampers (right)
I also compared the stretch ability of Pampers vs. Huggies. Some people might like stretchy other's might not. Either way it provides you a vide of the materials.
Left is Pampers, Right is Huggies
Mama Mama verdict - Huggies are our favorite. I prefer the feel of them and we use less of them for the same mess.

Now on to Parent's Choice. Parent's Choice is a Walmart brand.
A box of Parents Choice will cost you $8.97 for 480 wipes. (You can find them here) I will update this post the next time we purchase Parent's Choice to give personal photos of the wipes.
Source
Thickness: Normally I would expect a generic wipe to be thin and while these could be thicker, I don't feel like they are overly thin.
Feel: The Parent's Choice wipes we have used have all been textured slightly. They have always had moisture but not dramatically wet. When left out (or the tub open) it hasn't taken too long for a wipe to dry out.
Cleaning Ability: We've never had a problem with these wipes cleaning a mess. They have tore more often on us though (mostly when trying to pull them out of the tub).
Value: You get more for your money with these. They are almost $9 which is $2 cheaper than Pampers or Huggies. If you are looking to save money Parent's Choice wipes should get the job done for you.

Mama Mama verdict- These are good for the value. They should do what you need them to do at a lower cost.

So as a wrap up, we perfer Huggies wipes over other brands we have tried but Parent's Choice is a fine alternative for us if we are trying to save a few bucks.
*Do you have a favorite wipe? Do you have a different opinion on the wipes? Have another brand you'd like me to include? Comment below.

  1. I always liked huggies for our kids. We also used homemade ones too.

  2. I use equate brand shea butter scent from walmart and I love them. They are thick like huggies and smell really good! They are by the wipes in the health and beauty section not the baby section. I get 80 for $1.87.

  3. We love the shea butter scent Huggies. They are by far the best, IMO.

  4. We use cloth wipes for the majority of the time but when we do use mass produced wipes we like the pampers sensitive ones. They are super soft, stretchy and not sticky/gunky in the least.
