Dear Norah,
I can’t believe it has been a year since I was in the hospital in labor. On one hand it seems like it was just the other day that they handed you to me and I got to hold you for the first time, but on the other hand it seems like you have always been here - but the days when you were so tiny seem like another world away. It’s hard to remember when you were so tiny and slept most of the day, and now we have to fight you to sleep!
We have been so blessed by you. We prayed so hard for you to come to us and couldn’t imagine the amazingness that would come from the wait. You are such a good baby! Sure you have your fussy moments but you usually have a smile on your face. It takes us twice as long to get through the store now because we are stopped so often by people wanting to talk to you. You are so stinking cute.
You are so curious. You want to know what everything and everyone is and what it does or who they are. Curious could also be a good word for nosy. You don’t want anything to pass you by.
You’ve rarely been sick - until last week you hadn’t even had a real fever. You were so cuddly that I felt guilty I was enjoying the cuddles when I knew you didn’t feel well. I’m so glad you are back to feeling better and back to your usual all over the place self.
You love food... all food :) You’ve decided recently though that unless you can feed it to yourself it isn’t really worth eating. This makes for some messy times though for your poor mom and dad.
You are finally sleeping better. You slept so well when you were 2 months old, then you protested moving from Florida to Indiana by deciding you wanted to be nowhere other than our bed. We were incredibly tired and cranky. We are very thankful that we have been able to transition you back to your bed and we can even usually convince you to fall asleep right in your crib with only a back rub and about 17 rounds of “Jesus Loves Me”.
I remember when you couldn’t lift your head off of the floor (or daddy’s chest). Now you can pull yourself up onto anything (and everything!). You can even crawl up stairs! Just a few minutes ago your dad called me into the front room to see that you had climbed onto a box that was in the dining room. Everyone keeps asking if you are walking yet. You aren’t. It’s fine with us that you aren’t walking yet though, we chase you enough with your record crawling pace.
I love you so much babe. I’m so thankful that we have the privilege to be your parents. I’m not really sure how we got so lucky. I’m very much looking forward to watching you grow. Just promise me you won’t do it too fast!
