Thankful Thursday

Often my "Thankful Thursdays" are filled materialistic things so I wanted to change it up today.

5 non material things I am thankful for (in no particular order):

1. My children. As I've shared before, there was a time when I wasn't sure if I would be able to carry a child. I feel so incredibly blessed that I am on this side of my infertility battle and that I get these moments with them - all of them, from the cranky, snot nosed, no sleeping, time out taking times to the hugs, cuddles, kisses, first times.

2. My faith. I'm continually growing. I'm thankful that I have a God that is patient with me, that is willing to guide me and comfort me. I'm thankful I know God.

3. My parents. We loved living in Florida, absolutely loved it. In fact most days I'm ready to pack up and head back down. I miss it to my very core and if I could I would most certainly live the rest of my life there. But I can't. My family is up here in boring ole Indiana and unless they get the memo on the fantasticness of my "home" in Florida, we'll be here to stay.

4. Health. None of my immediate family has major health issues. I'm not in and out of the hospital myself nor am I in an out of the hospital visiting loved ones. My children are healthy and I don't have to watch them being poked and prodded. I know just how lucky I am to have seen the inside of a hospital very few times.

5. My education. I never decided to go to college. It wasn't really something I decided it just happened. I always just assumed that came after high school. I often complain about the six digit amount of college debt we have but I'm thankful that I even had the opportunity to get a degree... even if I will be paying for it long after my children are adults most likely.

So what non-material things are you thankful for today? Have a "Thankful Thursday" post? Share it in the comments!

Thankful Thursday

Yesterday my husband was contacted about speaking at a NYI camp in New Mexico this summer. They will be paying for his transportation, lodging and food of course and then also giving him an honorarium. The bit of extra money will really help us as we are trying to pay off some bills we have. I'm thankful today that this opportunity has presented itself. I hope it opens the door to more speaking engagements for him.

I think Norah and I will be trying to tag along. I've never been to New Mexico before and who doesn't want to go to New Mexico in July... uh I might spend the whole time in a cold shower. I hope we are able to give Norah the experience of traveling while she is young (though obviously when she is really young she won't remember it) - even if it means she thinks we have traveled to the sun.

Glorious Mess

I'm feeling pretty tired today so we've been having a lazy Sunday around here today. Our lazy day has consisted of me laying in bed watching movies (currently Miss Congeniality 2 on TBS) and Matt and Norah have been out in the living room. A few moments ago I walked out there to see how things were going and found two pretty familiar sites.

I'm pretty sure Norah fell asleep first, and instead of putting her in her crib like I suggested (asked...demanded?) he do he instead fell asleep as well. You'll have to ignore the fact that her dress falls at her waist haha, a girl isn't always pretty as she sleeps.

Then this caught my eye.

It makes me both smile and cringe. I cringe because of the obvious mess. I smile because of how happy it makes me that we have our daughter that is there to make the mess (uh well I suppose it is us making the mess at this point since she isn't mobile enough to get the toys out all on her own... but we'll blame it on her anyway). In early September 2010 we had been praying for someone to make a mess of our house with toys for over a year and we didn't know if and when it would happen. While I feel like I am picking up toys - and sweeping, and picking up food thrown on the floor (ahm I mean calling the dog over to eat the uneaten gerber puffs) all day long, I'm so thankful to have someone I'm picking up after.

Tomorrow I'm going to be making my second batch of homemade granola/cereal. It's incredibly tasty (just ask my husband who keeps making trips into the kitchen for handfuls of it) and pretty easy. It being healthy is just an added benefit! I'll be posting tomorrow how to make it.
