A Fall at 6500 Feet

Last Thursday we drove up to the top of the tallest mountain in the Smoky's. Unfortunately when we got up there it was too foggy to see anything, not only that but it was windy up there too. We got out of the Jeep and Matt got Norah out of the car seat and I handed him a blanket to wrap around her. Norah doesn't like when we hold her and wrap her up and so she squirmed and arched her back. At the same moment that she arched her back the wind blew the blanket and Matt was trying to keep it from blowing away and she fell.

She fell head first on the pavement.

The knot
She started crying and I tried to calm her down while Matt walked away to calm himself down. If you remember back to my post about how I accidentally let Norah roll off the couch you remember how I had that same sick feeling knowing that allowed Norah to feel pain - and also the worry of if she'd be okay of course. It was a complete accident on Matt's part of course and anyone that has held a 9 month old knows they can make sudden movements. Even still, it sucks knowing that something like that happened on your watch.

She ended up with a cut on her finger and a knot on her precious little head but not a concussion. It certainly could have been worse if my husband hadn't reacted quick enough to stop her fall before she fell completely. She could have broken something or hit her head harder which could have been bad.

I'm very thankful that God kept Norah safe and that all she had was a bump on the head. I'm also thankful that I have a husband that cares so much about our daughter that it really bothered him that he let her fall. I know he loves her very much.

That said... for the rest of vacation when he was holding her anywhere near the edge of the balcony at the cabin we asked him to not stand so close to the edge :) Thankfully he knows we meant it lightheartedly.

  1. So glad she is okay! What a story to tell her when she is older - a fall at 6500 feet!

P.S. Hope you got to enjoy the rest of vacation!
